I’m exhausted. I’ve been working the equivalent of almost three jobs for a few months now and sometimes wonder if I have enough brain cells left to ever be able to string a sentence together again. Which is a problem when you write for a living. Anyway, whenever I find myself banging my head against a big hard cold mental block, I turn to someone else for words of wisdom. All completely credited, of course. Today, I’d like to thank the September issue of Allure for giving me something to write about (don’t get me started about the fact that Britney is one the cover though - my tired old brain can’t compute that fact).
More specifically, I’d like to thank skin guru Ole Henrikson for being interviewed in the latest Allure. I love Ole. He is such a happy gorgeous man who makes delightful skincare (buy it at Adore Beauty) and is a wealth of genius beauty advice. And not just your regular ‘wear sunscreen’ type tips. But ones that you’ve never heard before, no matter how long you’ve been reading or writing beauty. One of my top tips is one he gave me several years ago during an anti-ageing interview: apply eye cream right out towards the temples, so as to treat the whole area where the crow’s feet can flock.
Here, some more beauty cleverness:
“Exfoliate twice a week to slough off dead skin cells, but don’t scrub aggressively, as that can cause rashes or even broken capillaries. It helps to apply a thin coat of sesame oil across the face and neck first to act as a buffer.”
“Rub a drop of aloe vera on pimples. The plant has natural properties that reduce redness and inflammation, and it moisturises the skin without clogging pores.”
“To wake yourself up in the morning, add a few drops of peppermint or rosemary oil to a sink of lukewarm water. Dampen a washcloth in the water, and pres it to your face 10 to 15 times. This gets your circulation going, so you have glow.”
