You probably know by now that I’m slightly obsessed with Brigitte Bardot. Not in a stalker way, mind you, more in a beauty-idol way. I love everything about her. The bedhead hair. The smoky eyes. The pouty lips. The St Tropez lifestyle. The flirty dresses. The so-cute songs. The glorious way she has aged - yes, wrinkles and all. The amazing work she does for animals. Well, indulge me in going on about her once more… It’s her birthday today (she’s 73, can you believe?) so it’s definitely the day to smoke up those eyes and mess up that hair and get that inner sex kitten purring.
Since seeing the hot-pink-pouty shots from Badgley Mischka’s latest show (see 10th September below), I’ve been religiously applying Model Co’s lip gloss in cherry ($34 from Model Co Shop). And have never had so many comments about my lips - good ones, mind you. I rarely wear such a full-on-bright colour on my mouth - or anywhere on my face for that matter. (Although you can stain this down into a pretty tint). But I’m thinking it’s not a fad. I might actually try to make it my spring signature look. Especially as I just saw this shot from the Alessandro dell’Acqua show in Milan and fell in love with the idea of hot-pink lips all over again. And you know I like to share my obsessions around. Anyway, if I’m the only one walking around with fuchsia lips, it won’t look like a trend. I’ll just look like the crazy girl with crazy pink lips.
I’ve been craving rosemary lately. I’m not sure why it all started. But I’ve been growing it and sprinkling it into all of my meals. I’ve been burning rosemary oil like it’s going out of fashion. And, as I said Monday, I even bought my dog a rosemary fragrance. Well, seems it might be my body’s way of forcing a detox on me - I just read that Japanese researchers have found that when we smell rosemary oil at high concentrations, there’s an increase in free radical activity in our saliva, thought to fight the toxins linked to ageing and inflammation. Not sure if that’s the same deal when it comes to pizza toppings. And that would kind of defeat the whole detox purpose. But if it takes some of the guilt out of eating pizza, I’m all for it.
You may have seen this ad last week - Alicia Silverstone promoting the benefits of veganism for Peta. On the site, she says: “I’ve been vegan for 10 years, and it’s the single-most important and helpful decision I have ever made. Physically, the effect has been amazing. Once I went vegan, I lost the weight I wanted to lose, my nails were stronger, and my skin was glowing. I feel great, and I look better now than I did 11 years ago.” (more…)
Feeling a little lacklustre? Give yourself a night off for some serious spa therapy.
Set the Mood: Turn off your phone. Burn a calming oil, such as lavender. Play some soothing music.
Dry Body Brush: Take a natural-bristle body brush and whisk it over skin, making sure to always work in the direction of your heart and to pay extra attention to trouble spots, such as tummy and thighs. This is a great way to activate the lymph, which will help remove toxins from the system. (more…)
