Spring!

Nothing major to report from the weekend. I have this thing about the first day of spring. I turn into a bit of a nana. I go to bed early the night before so that I can wake up fresh as a daisy. I go to the markets and buy fresh bread and a stack of flowers (freesias, sweet peas, cherry blossom). I go to the nursery and buy plants for my balcony. I vacuum, scrub and spray perfume all around my apartment. I bake. I make an effort with my hair. I think it’s some kind of superstition I have. Spring is a time of renewal. And a perfect time to let go of bad habits and baggage. So I kind of figure that you wouldn’t want to wake up in a hungover or sad old mess. It’s also the perfect time for some serious pampering. Although, like we need an excuse. And for a bit of a health kick.

My latest health inspiration is Sam Sample, founder of aromatherapy brand Be Genki and this month’s Beauty Expert. I thought I was healthy enough until I interviewed her. I now feel like I need to join Lindsay in rehab. I don’t think I have ever met a healthier human being than Sam. I am totally going to be channelling Sam all month long. I’m not sure how committed I will be to making her morning smoothie (rice milk, spirulina, Udo’s Omega 3 6 9 oil blend, aloe vera juice, slippery elm powder, psyllium husks, manuka honey and a multivitamin powder) and I am seriously bad at meditation, but I’m going to Sam-ify as much of my life as possible. Without any of the bunny boiler bits, mind you. Mixing up slippery elm and psyllium husks sounds hard enough.

thermos.jpgPS – speaking of cherry blossom, have you see these thermoses around? They’re in gift shops and health food stores. A great way to make you drink your fix of lemon-infused water or herbal tea in the morning, both of which count towards your water-drinking credit for the day.
