More from Milan …

October 3, 2007

The Paris shows have started so I’m a bit behind the fashion eight ball. But there’s nothing like spreading the love. Three of my favourite trends:

1960s Starlet

sharon-tate.jpggucci-s-08.jpgHeavily contoured eye makeup turned models at Gucci into Sharon Tate, the gorgeous 1960s actress and wife of Roman Polanksi, who was murdered by Charles Manson’s followers. I’m not sure how appropriate it is to reference the poor woman as a beauty icon given her grisly end. But she really was exactly that. I’ve heard so many makeup artists mention her and her eyes as an enduring inspiration. Defining the crease with a dark contouring shade immediately makes eyes look larger, almost doe-eyed, and the face more structured. Just make sure to blend well, and maybe wear with moodlighting, otherwise everyone will be onto the tricks you’re trying to play.

Gold Lids, Ruby Lips

Matchy-Matchy Makeup

missoni-s-08.jpgpucci-s-08.jpgShould you work your makeup back to your outfit? It’s one of those beauty questions that doesn’t really have a right answer. It can so often look wrong. But right now seems right. I love how dark green glittery eyes at Missoni picked up on the green and glimmer throughout their collection. Over at Pucci, however, neutral makeup was used as a counterpoint to the technicolour clothes. But it kind of leaves me wanting more - I just have this urge to whack some bright orange or fuchsia gloss on them. Which thankfully is not an urge that carries out into real life. That would be exhausting. Not to mention a little bit psycho of me.
