Smoky, smouldering eyes don’t have to mean grey or black. You can use the same eye makeup technique to apply brightly coloured eye shadow. Or, for a more subtle effect, darken eyes as usual, then finish off with a sheer layer of colour - say, turquoise or emerald or purple. It will be just enough to brighten up eyes, without looking too technicolour.
