Sometimes I think I’m a Real Beauty Know-it-all…

November 14, 2007

… And then there are mornings like this one. Where I wake up with skin I don’t recognise. Scaly, blotchy, spotty – you name it, it’s happening and I have no idea why. So I feel a little fraud-ish talking about beauty today. But well, it is some kind of OCD to write something every day (I never did a diary when I was young, I must be making up for lost time). So what I’ll instead do today is leave it to November Allure to give you your beauty fix. I’m just going to ignore the crazy false lashes on Jennifer Lopez on the cover and go straight to this gem of a beauty tip …

Did you know that crushing an aspirin tablet and mixing it with a little water to create a paste may actually be a great pimple treatment? It’s because aspirin contains salicylic acid, the ingredient that features in so many acne products.

Another fab tip from the ‘Home Brews’ feature: use a pack of frozen peas (thawed for about ten minutes) to de-puff eyes. As derm Katie Rodan explains, “The reason frozen peas work so well in particular is that the little peas settle and mould to the eye area.” You can also use tea bags – but just avoid earl grey. As another derm points out, “It has oil of bergamot, which can cause the redness and itching of contact dermatitis.”
