Kermit Was Right: It’s Really Not That Easy

December 12, 2007

In my quest to go as green and organic as possible at the moment (except when it comes to alcohol, I’m working on that, but it is party season you know, cut me some slack), I have even started using herbal toothpaste and deodorant. And boy is it a struggle. I have to practically drag myself into the bathroom every time I need to brush my teeth, such an unenjoyable taste sensation as it is. But it’s a walk in the park compared to herbal deodorant – which doesn’t seem to cut it even after a walk in the park. I have found myself having to wash my armpits (TMI? Sorry) and reapply my deodorant about three times a day, because it just doesn’t adequately cover the body’s, um, natural odours so well long-term. On top of this, because natural deodorants aren’t anti-perspirants (you need chemicals for that), I have to follow up each deodorant application with a sprinkle of powder, which soaks up wetness (I use an organic corn starch baby powder, a tip given to me by the president of Origins, Daria Myers, herself a natural freak). It’s all a hassle, a big one in fact, but I’m going to persist for a while and try to get used to it. At least until the end of party season. I have enough toxins in my body as it right now.
