I was told so yesterday. I don’t hear this too often so indulge me in showing off a little. Not that I can take too much credit for the hair in question - I had just been to see stylist Brad Ngata. When I told him I wanted it all off, his jaw practically hit the floor. Just ask any of my hairdressing acquaintances – I’m notoriously stick-in-the-mud when it comes to cutting my hair. Over the last ten years, I’ve probably had four or five chops only (and that includes trims).
By ‘all off’, I meant Kate Moss’s new length. Fringe and all. It’s a look that Brad told me is the latest celebrity copy-cut request (finally bumping that skinny VB and her pointy little pob off its perch).
As you’ll see from the photo (I’m with Brad, but you probably guessed that), I don’t quite look like Kate Moss. Brad kept a lot of my length and chose to cut a fringe that curved open, rather than hang heavy over the forehead. I’m slightly relieved now. In any other hands, it all could have all been another not so happy story. After all, when you say trim, most hairdressers hear ‘twenty centimetres’ and it ends in tears.
And anyway, I’m not sure I would have had the commitment for a Kate. “The shorter you go with your hair, the more styling effort you have to make,” Brad reminded me yesterday, knowing I’m a pretty low-maintenance (read: lazy) kind of hair girl. “Women make that mistake all the time, and chop their hair off because they think they’re getting something more manageable.” As Brad told me, this kind of look will not only be easy to style, but will also grow out well. And seeing that my salon visitation rate is once every two to three years, that’s probably a good thing.
