Breezy-boho is Hollywood’s favourite hair look of the moment, as starlets channel the the folky fluffy styles of singers Carly Simon and Stevie Nicks. Nicole Richie and the Olsen twins have all been rocking the look lately, Nicole accessorising hers with braids, Mary Kate with beaded headbands. Even on the red carpet, perfect-imperfect hair is matched with couture gowns – just flash back to Cameron Diaz and Jessica Alba at the Oscars.
To get the look, try the new Joico Dry Spray Wax ($27.95), a no-mess matt-finish styler. Simply spritz in, and either style away or simply scrunch hair into a tousled-look effect. Also from the new Design Collection: the ingenious Humidity Blocker Finishing Shield ($29.95), a lightweight spray that coats strands so as to prevent moisture playing havoc with hair. Because there’s a fine line between mussed-up and messy.

There are many possible reasons for hair loss. It could be a temporary thing – say, if you’ve been stressed lately. If your iron levels are low, that could be a factor, so try taking supplement. It could just be a genetic predisposition to a certain amount of hair loss. Or it could be something that requires a doctor’s attention. I’ve covered more on this in an earlier feature, so read this before you consider how to proceed. Good luck.
Sometimes I think I’ve heard it all. And then I read that Demi Moore detoxes via leeches. Yes. This from the Sydney Morning Herald website:
“It detoxifies your blood - I’m feeling very detoxified right now. I did it in some woman’s house lying on her bed. We did a little sampler first, which is in the belly button.
“It crawls in and you feel it bite down on you and you want to go, ‘You b—–d.’ Then you relax and work on your Lamaze breathing just to kind of relax.
“You watch it swell up on your blood, watching it get fatter and fatter - then when it’s super drunk on your blood it just kind of rolls over like it is stumbling out of the bar.” (more…)
I really do. I love saying the name, with that sexy little minx of an acute at the end. And I love wearing it. Not that I actually own that much. I often try things on in shops and swan around for a few minutes. But all I’ve ever taken home has been a tshirt from the Stella McCartney era and a fabulous huge pair of sunnies I recently bought. Still, I pine over every catwalk show (except the last two - thank goodness for new designer Hannah McGibbon, who looks set to revive the Stella/Phoebe Philo vibe). I think it’s just that it’s one of those brands every girl relates to so well and wishes was her wardrobe and her own little secret. At last night’s party for the Australian launch of the fragrance (coming soon, I will let you know), the PR people explained it so well. It’s because Chloé is the perfect mix of pretty, sexy and cool. Which is why they went with three faces for the advertising: Chloë Sevigny (cool), model Anja Rubik (sexy), and actress Clémence Poésy (pretty). Not that you could call the first two un-pretty.
So back to the party for Chloé eau de parfum. We were swooning. Literally: there was a huge heady wall covered in 2,800 roses – seen here, with me, and two of my favourite beauty girls: Stephanie Darling from Madison and Mary Zavaglia from Woman’s Day. And the fragrance itself is really gorgeous, all roses and peonies melting into a honey softness. And maybe, just maybe, that light-headedness had something to do with the dangerously drinkable Moët & Chandon rosé champagne.
They actually go on different parts of the face (blush on the apples or to contour the cheekbones; highlighter along the upper cheekbones and the browbones) so it doesn’t really matter. Having said that, I like applying highlighter as the finishing touch – it has the effect of pulling a look together. However, if you have either a strongly coloured eye or mouth, you might want to do your blush last. This is because you may actually find that there’s so much going on already that you can skip blush altogether. Take a step away from the mirror so as to take in your whole look, before making the decision.
