It’s that tricky time of year when spring is so close you can smell the frangipanis (not to mention the new-season shoes) – but it’s just so damn cold that denial seems a better option. But if scaly feet, rough hands and dry, itchy skin are getting harder to ignore under all those layers, it’s time to take action. The new Vaseline Intensive Rescue range makes the transition from winter-worn to spring-ready that much easier. There’s a Moisture Locking Body Lotion ($7.79) - or for severely dry or eczema-suffering skin, there’s Relief & Repair Balm ($9.99). The Soothing Hand Cream ($5.29) instantly softens hands as well as forming a moisture-protecting barrier to prevent further parching. And last but not least is the fabulous Hydrating Foot Cream ($5.29), which features an AHA complex to help exfoliate away dead dry skin, as well as make for deeper hydration - and let you slip into those new-season shoes so much more stylishly.
The Look: Miss lively lives up to her name with bright apricot blush working back to a tangerine dress working back to sun-kissed skin.
The Low-Down: Blush in shades of apricot, melon and peach are best worn sheer and subtle – but to get the right pigment impact, are best layered onto a couple of coats of foundation. This camouflages any natural discolouration in the skin, allowing for the blush to be the main colour statement.

Technology could be the death of me. Or at least cause a few new wrinkles. My server was down most of yesterday, which saw me flail around like a fish out of water. I just had no idea what to do except stress. I left narky messages on my American server’s voicemail (they were conveniently asleep). I paced up and down. I ranted and raved. And I ate a lot of chocolate.
Luckily I had an outlet for venting my frustration. Last night, I started off a road-test of a body-shaping/fat-burning/cellulite-busting technology called Hypoxi (click here for more details). I’ll tell you more about my miraculous results (thinking positive, channelling The Secret) as I go, but basically you pedal away in this pressurised contraption (BTW, that photo: not me. I was not that cheery yesterday). After thirty minutes of my legs being vacuumed and whirled around, I was feeling much calmer, not to mention feeling a few new muscle groups. (more…)
My absolute all-time favourite concealer is M.A.C Select Cover-Up ($32 from M.A.C). It’s the perfect balance of pigment and moisture, so it’s ideal for evening skin out in the morning, and then re-applying throughout the day as needed. It’s also what you’ll find in practically every makeup artist’s kit – I’ve even seen it used as base alone, and it stands up brilliantly under a day of harsh studio lighting. Definitely worth the investment.
The Look: Sheer sun-kissed skin.
The Low-Down: Sometimes self-tanner is base enough for skin. The key to going foundation-free is to continually keep tan topped up. Use a gradual face tanner at night, or else mix equal parts tanner and night cream. To even out any discolouration, make sure your concealer is matched to your new bronzed hue.
