I swim in a heavily chlorinated pool three times a week. My skin is parched even though I use a moisturiser and rosehip oil. Can you recommend a moisturiser or treatment to help me?

Swimming in chlorine can not only dehydrate skin but also deplete it of its natural oils, meaning it becomes almost a textbook-dry skin. In this case, you need to make sure you’re using a moisturiser for dry to very dry skin – usually this will feature a selection of oils to instantly pamper and plump up skin. A friend of mine who swims regularly swears by Clarins HydraQuench Rich Cream ($74 from Adore Beauty). If ageing is also a concern, try Dermalogica Age Smart Super Rich Repair ($130, see Dermalogica). You can also try mixing a couple of drop of rose essential oil to your moisturiser, to make it extra-hydrating. Keep using your rosehip oil too – that’s’ a brilliant treatment and can be easily reapplied during the day to any dry or rough patches.

  1. This a great tip - thanks Kat. I hope the drop of rose oil may help rid of the chlorine smell too!
