Do you have any recommendations for a pigmented orange-y tangerine-y lip gloss?

Oh that old chestnut. I’m always on the search for the perfect orange lip gloss (R.I.P Pout). The problem is that the strongest ones are usually available only as limited-edition trend buys because most companies don’t consider bright orange gloss to be mainstream enough. That’s why they mostly do very sheer versions and shades that are more like peach and mango than orange. They’re lovely in how they make you look like you’ve been eating juicy tropical fruit, but they’re hardly satisfying if you’re after a major lip statement.

In this case, you’re probably best to buy an orange lipstick and top it off with clear lip shine – that’s what the catwalk makeup artists usually do. M.A.C Lipstick in Morange ($35 from M.A.C) is a popular choice, and I also love the new Clarins Joli Rouge in Orange Fizz ($40 from Adore Beauty).

You should also check out the just launched Maybelline Volume XL Seduction Lip Plumper ($17.50 from pharmacies). It’s like a lip lacquer, so gives great pigment punch. Peachy Flush (#405) is really pretty, but if that’s not strong enough for you, check out Sensuous Ruby (#505) – despite its name, it looks close to coral when I wear it.

  1. Laura Mercier do one in a shade which I think is called Tangerine - it’s very popular.
