I tried to organise a Happy 50th Birthday Madonna party on the weekend, complete with side ponytails and red lipstick and yoga arms and Desperately Seeking Susan playing in the background - but nobody else got anywhere near as excited about the idea as I was (hmmm, just like what happened when I floated the concept of a Chinoiserie night to watch the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics – you know, dumplings, chopsticks in hair, lanterns etc). So I ended up having a bit of a Madonna-fest myself on Google (gee, I’m sounding like I have a really glamorous social life right now). And I realised that I’d forgotten just how many trend-starting looks Madonna has done over the years. So as a happy birthday gift (the $500,000 Bvlgari jewels had just been snapped up), I’m dedicating this post to her top twelve looks:
2008 – soft waves and a centre part
2004 – super-yogi
1997 – earth mother curls
1996 – retro-chic for Evita
1995 – Gucci-glam
1992 – girlie pigtails
1991 – blonde ambition
1990 – modern Marilyn
1989 – brunette for Like a Prayer
1986 – platinum crop (waaaay before Aggy)
1984 – lace and tulle hair bows
1983 – the side pony

Madonnas the best, i admire how she reinvents her look and doesn’t get stuck in a beauty rut. LOVE the new beat on hard candy. I hope I’m as fit as her at 50- though not quite as muscly!

You lot are all jealous and envious, Madonna gets what she wants, does what she wants, does’nt take any crap and expects the best for herself and, still looks sensational at 50. Madonna should be celebrated because she has empowered women over many years from the early 80’s until now. She has probably done what no other women has done and that is raise awareness/independence for women. Good luck to her, she’s fantastic.
