The Look: Pretty Natural
The Low-Down: If you’re fair-featured, don’t forget that ‘natural’ doesn’t mean browns and beiges in your case. Instead, go for pale rosy shades that will enhance your cheeks’ and lips’ shades by one to two tones.
The Lust-After: Revlon Beyond Natural Protective Liptint in Pink or Rosy, $20.95 each, from pharmacies and department stores.

In a word: brilliant. This lightweight lotion packs in some serious sun-protecting power. It’s mineral-based, therefore a physical blocker. Unlike other such mixes, however, it sits beautifully on the skin (on top of your regular moisturiser, beneath your makeup). The non-greasy lotion gives a semi-matte finish that makes it ideal for even oilier skins. Plus (more…)
Anything super-moisturising will keep skin supple and therefore less likely to dry up and flake off so quickly. You can buy tan extenders, which usually contain a small amount of DHA, which is enough to keep your colour topped up. But a rich body cream or body butter will also do the job well. I was actually just reading that Victoria Beckham slathers on The Body Shop Body Butter in Mango ($27.95 from The Body Shop) in between her spray tans. The cult buy has a beautifully sweet and tropical smell and, combined with a tan, is an ideal way to get you into a Springtime frame of mind – not to mention body.

Oh Heather, how the mighty’s mascara has melted. By now, of course, you know that Heather Locklear was picked up under suspicion of driving under some kind of influence over in Santa Barbara, only to then have her makeup-smeared mug shot plastered all over the internet. The mug shot is the great democratiser of all photos. Even celebrities don’t get the red-carpet air-brushed treatment for this one. Although some have mastered the art of the mug shot quite nicely. As modelled by Paris and Nicole, a few layers of fake tan go far towards camouflaging any signs of unhealthy behaviour. While some mess-free mascara never goes astray in a messy situation. And a tilted-down chin means much less skin to show off under the glare of the police station fluoros. A slight smile is also always a plus in a photo. Not that there’s that much to smile about, granted. Although then again, you’re a celeb, so you’ll probably only get about, oh, fifty-two minutes of jail-time.
You should be able to use one foundation, matched to the skin on your cheek, to even out your skin all over. You may, however, need extra coverage (and therefore pigment power) on the forehead – applying foundation with a brush here could give you that. Having said that, foundation worn on the forehead can look ageing on many skins. So you could try going straight to a bronzer and whisking it over your brow to darken up the skin, or alternatively mixing self-tanner into your night cream and dealing with the area this way.
