This Works

October 28, 2008

Kathy Phillips was the beauty director of British Vogue for seven years. So you can only imagine the exquisiteness that came across her desk on a daily basis. And you can imagine that, when she decided to launch her own skin and bodycare range, her standard bar was set very high.

This Works happily lives up to all expectations – and its name.

Inspired by holistic beauty (the hardly-under-achieving Phillips is qualified as a yoga teacher and has written books on the subject), Phillips worked with an aromatherapist friend to concoct the fabulous results-driven formulations in This Works.

Their first product is still the star, having won many awards: Skin Deep Dry Skin Leg Oil ($80). The blend of cold pressed plant oils and nine essential oils smooths into skin like a dream and gives legs a lustrous finish.

Other stand-outs:

Perfect Cleavage ($85). Ed’s note: I have been using this for a couple of months and am beyond impressed. My décolletage, which was showing signs of sun damage and sleep wrinkles, is now amazingly even and soft. It contains larch extract for anti-ageing power, pomegranate oil for its antioxidant effect, and Brazilian Murumuru butter for a deeply nourishing treat.

Turbo Balm ($26). A use-anywhere and –everywhere (lips, cuticles, heels, etc) product made from monoi oil (from Tahitian gardenias), coconut oil and cocoa butter. Just divine.

Deep Calm Bath Oil ($78). Vetiver, lavender and chamomile mixed in with skin-softening coconut oil. Heaven.

Active Oil ($85). This luscious mix of essential oils of tuberose, jasmine, chamomile, sandalwood and pink grapefruit seemingly rejuvenates skin before your eyes.

Clean Skin ($48). With ingredients like olive and coconut oil, mixed with rose hip and eucalyptus, it functions like a cleansing oil in the way it softens skin, but its lotion-like consistency makes it a cinch to remove.

Details: This Works is available now from Mecca Cosmetica.

  1. Those products look great. Especially the bath oil. I love the packaging too! Turbo Balm sounds a bit like Paw Paw cream.
