Celebrity hair may be all about the bob and the crop right now. And the recent catwalks showed lots of long centred-parted styles. But it was the chic Parisian up-dos (YSL, pictured here; Lanvin; Valentino) that I most sighed over during the collections. Sighed, because I have never worn my hair up. One, because of my ear dysmorphia. And two, because of my back.
I don’t necessarily love to tell the world that I suffer from back-ne (back breakouts, although you probably got that). But I am here to serve. And anyway, fingers crossed I have solved that particular beauty stress.
On the weekend, as I was getting ready for a garden party, wearing a very garden party-ish halter dress, I decided to continue the theme with a twisty up-do complete with flower. This is the point in the process when I usually check my back-view and have to take the hair down.
This time, however, the hair stayed up, because my back was in completely show-off-able condition. All I can put it down to is using Dermalogica MediBack Clearing Skin Wash ($51.50, see Dermalogica for details) on my back when I’m showering. The key is to use it after you’ve rinsed your conditioner out, because shampoo and conditioner residue can contribute to breakouts.
As for that ear dysmporphia, well I’m slowly getting over that one too. A long fringe helps the cause.
So what this all now means is that I’m in for a summer of new hair styles. I’m not quite sure I’ll get as creative as stylist Julien d’Ys did recently at Yves Saint Laurent, where bright extensions were weaved into fabulous French rolls. But it’s nice to have a few new options.
