How do I create a wavy boho look that won’t fall during the day or take years to do?

I have two ideas for you that I’ve pinched from the pros lately …

After blow-drying hair to about 90%, take a heap of large butterfly clips and pinch them horizontally into hair all over. You’ll need about four per section of hair, although you can be quite haphazard about it. Finish drying hair then, after about ten minutes, take out the clips, spritz on hairspray, and you’ll see an effect similar to the hair in this photo, from the recent Proenza Schouler show, where stylists used this exact method to kink and wave hair.

Another super-easy idea is this: Wash hair, apply styling product (preferably one that doubles as a heat shield), then dry off. Immediately style into a whole lot of braids, then use a straightener to iron over each plait a couple of times. Unfurl, give it a mist of hairspray, and you’ve got yourself a similarly carefreely-curled look.

  1. You can try twisting your hair in a not so tight bun and let it dry naturally or you can use your hair dryer. After it’s done you can let undo it and there you go! Some fabulous waves!

  3. Hi Emily - Sorry not to be clear, best to blow-dry off first, this way you’ll get the smoothest waves. K x
