What are the best anti-wrinkle creams?

November 14, 2008

It depends on what part of the wrinkling process you’re talking about. If you’re worried about, or starting to see, first signs of lines, get onto antioxidants, which fight the free radicals that are breaking down the support structure of skin in the first place. My all-time top is a vitamin C serum – such as Ultraceuticals C-10 Serum ($80 from Adore Beauty).

If you’re seeing wrinkles actually starting to set in, it’s great to also throw some peptides in the mix, as these have a collagen-stimulating effect. The Olay Regenerist range (from pharmacies) is a good one to look to at this time, which is usually from the early to mid thirties.

For a harder-hitting option, you could try alpha hydroxy acids, which also help stimulate collagen production, but have an immediate effect at surface level, due to their exfoliating and skin-smoothing properties. FYI: they’re increasingly unpopular in some beauty circles, which say that over time they thin the skin and make matters worse, but the key is not to overdo it - think the occasional course of peels, or add in either a cream or serum to your regimen. Check out the M.D Formulations range – see True Solutions for stockist info.

Lastly but not leastly, the absolute best anti-wrinkle cream around – no matter what your age - is sunscreen. Photo-damages causes the bulk of skin ageing, so suncare – and sun avoidance – are your best anti-ageing bet.

  1. i’ve recently turned 28 and suddenly realised that i’m actually getting older, which had somehow escaped my attention up until this point. specifically, i realised that everything was going to start to sag one day. eek!

frankly all of the spin pumped out by the cosmetics companies wasn’t very helpful, i actually wanted to know what could *really* make a difference and not just lighten my wallet. one website that i found that really cleared things up for me was this one:

    http://www.smartskincare.com/

it’s written by a dermatologist and actually quotes real scientific studies, as opposed to the questionnaire results quoted by most cosmetic companies.

after a *lot* of reading, i bought ultraceuticals pharma vitamin c and vitamin a cream and the AHA even skintone serum. real ingredients, company owned by a dermatologist and cheaper than the regular range!

and most importantly, sunscreen, becca mineral 30+ primer. though i’m not convinced that i haven’t reacted quite badly to it, my skin has gone really dry and scaly around my t-zone, though that could be the new cleansing wipes i randomly picked up because my regular brand was out of stock… skincare is all really very confusing.
