August 08 - Karen Fischer, Nutritionist and Author

A former model and television presenter, nutritionist and author of The Healthy Skin Diet ($36.99 from Exisle Publishing), Karen Fischer knows a thing or more about looking good. As her website states, her philosophy is Health Before Beauty – and here she dishes some of her healthiest beauty tips.

Why did you write The Healthy Skin Diet?

hsd-book.jpgI grew up suffering from dermatitis, psoriasis and pimples, which would come and go and I had no idea why. However, when I passed on my ‘bad skin’ genes to my daughter, who was born with eczema (inflamed and terribly itchy skin which would bleed as she constantly scratched it), I decided to do some research into skin health. July 08 – Eleni Uranis, Cirque du Soleil Makeup Designer

With Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion starting its Australian tour this month, makeup designer Eleni Uranis gives us some of her precious time – and tips.

What exactly is a makeup designer?

”As a makeup designer, my job is to create the faces that will make the characters of a show complete and believable. To do this I prepare documents with pictures of every step of the make-up and an explanation of what they need to do. They go through each step and at the end they arrive to the same result as when I did their makeup.” (more…)

June 08 - Kevin Murphy, Hair Stylist

Born in Melbourne, Murphy made his mark in the Australian hair industry in the early 1990s, with his Chapel Street salon immediately becoming an institution. The Kusco-Murphy haircare collection soon followed, among which was Beach Hair. Inspired by a cover shoot for Swimsuit Illustrated, when sand blew into Murphy’s styling products, Beach Hair was arguably the product that started the salty surfer hair trend that is still so strong these days. After a successful stint as a session stylist in New York, Murphy moved into the professional haircare market, launching Kevin.Murphy. He remains an in-demand stylist for editorial and advertising shoots, and was recently in Australia working at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.

What’s your signature style?

km-natural-wave.jpgLong, usually parted in the middle, with wavy mid-lengths and straight ends. I don’t do curly ends as it can look a little too debutante. And I don’t over-curl hair as it can sacrifice length. (more…)
