Whiten Teeth, Lose Weight

If you’ve been thinking lately that you need to a) curb those late-night snacking tendencies and b) do something about those wine-stained teeth, here’s some good news: you can do both at once. By brushing and treating teeth early in the evening, you won’t actually want to eat (some food experts also say that the taste of toothpaste can psychologically satisfy a late-night sweet tooth). Just make sure to see your dentist for a custom-fit bleaching kit (such as Colgate Professional) for the best results. PS: true- or blue-red lipstick and bronzer can also contribute to a whiter-, brighter-look smile – as seen at the Michael Kors Spring/Summer 09 show.

Shower after Making Up

According to legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath, if you do your face before bathing, the steam and heat from the shower or bath will make for a more dewy makeup finish (just keep your face out of the water!) - similar to this supple-looking style she designed for Stella McCartney’s Spring/Summer 09 show.

Multi-Roll your Hair

If you always ignore the smaller-sized hot rollers in your kit (and yes: the pros say hot rolling is making a comeback), it may be time you give them a go. When used to curl the bottom half of hair, you’ll get tight curls that will support your bigger curls on top, holding them up for a longer-lasting style.

Sleek-ify your Hair Style

Sharpen up your ponytail, bun or chignon by starting out with a tight, sleek base. To do this, smooth a shine-enhancing serum through the roots of hair. This isn’t generally recommended as the roots have enough of their own natural oils. But it works brilliantly if you’re after this one-off look, as the serum will work to dampen skin, allowing it to stretch back over head – and as it dries it will set into a shiny wet-look finish, similar to that seen here at Prada.

Brush on Cream Shadow

Eye shadow creams can slip and slide when applied with fingers – as the skin’s warmth can melt and move the colour around. Instead, take the extra time to apply the cream with a regular eye shadow brush. You’ll get better control and be better able to press colour into place. Use an eyeliner brush to work the cream around the inner corners and below the lashline.
