The Closest You’ll Get to Showering with Brad Pitt

Can Angelina and Brad do no wrong? They’re jaw-droppingly beautiful. They have the perfect rainbow family. And they give more money to charity in a year than most celebrities do in a lifetime. For Brangelina’s latest charitable act, Brad has teamed up with Kiehl’s. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the profits from sales of their upcoming Aloe Vera Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser will benefit JPF Eco Systems, which was created by Brad and Kiehl’s to support environmentally friendly design. Brad’s face isn’t plastered all over the product (which is kinda a nice change from most celeb-endorsed products), but his writing is: the label reads “Kiehl’s formulated this product to minimize the impact we have on our environment. All proceeds will go to benefit green initiatives around the globe.”

Oh and in other Brangelina beauty news, I just heard that Angelina used Korres’s stretch mark cream during her pregnancies. It’s not available here but the Korres Guava Body Butter ($34 from Kit) is a must-try if you haven’t yet tried.

And anything that gets me closer to Brad and Ange, well I’m happy.

Madonna’s Greatest (Beauty) Hits

I tried to organise a Happy 50th Birthday Madonna party on the weekend, complete with side ponytails and red lipstick and yoga arms and Desperately Seeking Susan playing in the background - but nobody else got anywhere near as excited about the idea as I was (hmmm, just like what happened when I floated the concept of a Chinoiserie night to watch the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics – you know, dumplings, chopsticks in hair, lanterns etc). So I ended up having a bit of a Madonna-fest myself on Google (gee, I’m sounding like I have a really glamorous social life right now). And I realised that I’d forgotten just how many trend-starting looks Madonna has done over the years. So as a happy birthday gift (the $500,000 Bvlgari jewels had just been snapped up), I’m dedicating this post to her top twelve looks: (more…)

Teen Choice Beauty Trends

What has happened to LA teens? Where’s the glitter and the green eyeshadow and the garish nail polish and the crazy hair dos? They’re all so grown-up and styled to within an inch of their lives, it’s actually a little boring. You like to see a few worst-dressed shockers at every big event, but it seems there are fewer and fewer of those these days. Possibly because stars employ stylists even when going out for a frappuccino.

(True story: a friend of mine who’s in the industry over there was telling me how a certain store allows certain stars to shop there for free, on the condition that they’re given enough notice of the star’s arrival to alert the paparazzi. Because the star knows she’s basically walking into a photo opp, she calls her hair stylist and makeup artist to get her ready for the outing, so that she’ll look great when snapped swinging her bags of free goods. Isn’t that just crazy?)

rachel-b-teen-choice.jpghayden-p-teen-choice.jpgblake-lively-teen-choice.jpgAnyway, back to the Teen Choice Awards, which were held in LA the other night. Foundation was flawless, eyes were edged neatly in black or slicked with a little liquid liner, and pale pink was the nail polish du jour. It was all so picture-perfect and polished - except, thankfully, for the hair, which is where LA teens stay true to their casual beach-babe roots. The two hot looks of the night: sunkissed brunette waves (Leighton Meester, Rachel Bilson) and tousled blonde updos (Blake Lively, Hayden Panettiere). Although while it all kind of took the edge off the perfection of the night, it was hardly controversial. It’s enough to make you beg Britney to come back on the scene.

J.Lo’s Big Hair Secrets

Have you noticed how Jennifer Lopez’s hair has gotten really big lately? There’s volume and curls and a heck of a lot of product going on. One new mum once told me that she went through three bottles of hair mousse in the months after giving birth, because big hair made her post-birth body look smaller. So perhaps that’s it. Or maybe Jennifer is just a control freak. Madonna’s similar – never steps out without a curl being sprayed into perfect place – even if she’s only going to the gym. It must be hard being a control freak when you’re as famous as Jennifer and Madonna. The paparazzi are always lying in wait of a bad hair day. And you can’t control pap pics like you can studio ones (did you know magazines are often presented with celebrity photos that have already been airbrushed to within an inch of their lives).

j-lo-studio-big-hair.jpgSpeaking of studio shoots, someone I know who knows someone who knows someone who was on a Jennifer Lopez shoot (or something like that – boy, I am so connected) told me that the way she always has that glamorous big hair going on in her photos is via two wind machines. Yes, two. One on each side, aimed at each other. Apparently the gusts of air meet in the middle and somehow combine to make hair-blowing magic. Just a tip for when you’re styling your next glamour shoot.
